GSP - Internship Programme
(For details, please refer to the Operation Guideline (PDF Format).)

What is Internship Programme?

Internship Programme is a sub-programme under the General Support Programme (GSP) for universities with projects funded under the Innovation and Technology Support Programme (ITSP) or the Matching Grant for Joint Research Scheme (UIM) of the University-Industry Collaboration Programme (UICP) to recruit interns to assist in the projects.

What are the aims of the Programme?

The aims of the Internship Programme are:

  • to provide opportunities for fresh graduates from tertiary institutions to acquire research/industrial experience at local universities/companies by participating in an ITSP or UIM project;
  • to stimulate the interest of fresh graduates in applied R&D activities and help create a larger pool of research talents; and
  • to further support local universities in undertaking applied R&D activities by funding interns for their ITSP or UIM projects.

Who are eligible to apply?

Participating Universities

All local universities undertaking ITSP or UIM projects may apply for taking on interns under the Internship Programme for the funded projects on a voluntary basis. The Programme is applicable to all on-going and new ITSP or UIM projects with project duration of not less than 12 months.

Participating Interns

To be qualified for the Internship Programme, the recruited intern should be a first-degree local graduate within the past twelve months from a local university. The graduate should have successfully completed the undergraduate programme, and should be a permanent Hong Kong resident or resident permitted to remain in Hong Kong for not less than 7 years. He/she should be a graduate in the relevant field of the research project to which he/she is to be recruited. The intern is expected to work on a full-time basis for the ITSP or UIM project.

What is the remuneration for interns?

The ITF would cover a maximum of $9,000 of the monthly basic salary and employer's contribution (i.e. $450 maximum) to the Mandatory Provident Fund (if any) for each intern. The salary would be the actual lump sum monthly remuneration for the intern who participates in the ITSP or UIM project.

How to apply for the Programme?

Universities wishing to participate in the Internship Programme should have their ITSP or UIM project approved by the Government and an intern selected/identified before submission of the application form to the ITF Secretariat.

Is there any application deadline?

The Internship Programme is open all year round.
